Job Description
- Develop finite element simulation models and methods to analyse the structural and thermal behaviour of composite piping products.
- Execute finite element simulations to predict the performance of composite piping products under various conditions.
- Improve the design, performance, and reliability of existing products and support the design and development of new products.
- Be responsible for and be the custodian of the FEA simulations.
- Develop and maintain simulation tools and processes to support the design and development of products
- Perform FEA analysis on products including static and dynamic analysis, creep analysis, linear and non-linear analysis, and failure analysis.
- Perform virtual testing simulations on products to assess the performance prior to prototype testing.
- Document simulation methods, results, and conclusions in technical reports and presentations.
- Perform technical feasibility analysis on non-standard products.
- Define and coordinate material characterization tests.
- Conduct tests and experiments to validate FEA results.
- Coordinate and / or conduct performance validation tests on prototypes.
- Conduct failure analysis on failed prototypes.
- Keep up to date with advancements in finite element analysis and composite materials, and apply this knowledge to enhance the simulation capabilities.
SPAN OF Communication:
- Internal: Technology director, product management team, product design team, process team, raw materials team, component design team, application value engineering team, technical team.
- External: Third parties, clients / end-users, laboratories and test labs, educational institutions, and consultants.
JOB RELEVANT INFORMATION (BOUNDARIES & DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY)
- Take ownership of FEA models and results of assigned simulation projects.
Skills
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5 to 8 years of experience in finite element modelling and simulation of composite materials using Abaqus and / or Ansys Composite PrepPost.
- In depth knowledge of all aspects related to theory of composite materials such as classical laminate theory, failure theories, etc...
- Strong understanding of composite material behaviour and failure mechanisms.
- In depth understanding of all aspects related to Finite Element Analysis.
- Expert in multi-scale modelling of composites.
- Expert in linear and non-linear analysis.
- Expert in using Abaqus and / or Ansys Composite PrepPost.
- Proficient in linking theoretical possibilities to practical limitations.
Preferred Experience:
- Industry experience in composite materials products, preferably piping products.
- Proficient in using SolidWorks and / or Inventor.
- Detailed understanding of design, production methods, applicable standards & specifications and testing techniques of composites.
- Knowledge of advanced modelling methods such as damage, delamination and crack propagation.
